There are dozens of posts on the web about how to do this, so i'll keep this post brief and just incorporate my own experience.
As you may already know, The Samsung Blackjack II has a 300k restriction set on the file size of ringtones.
This can be circumvented by a simple change to the registry.
Install a Registry Editor
You'll need to install a registry editor. For convenience, I've mirrored a download for PHM Registry Editor.
The build I have was targetted for Windows Mobile 5, but should work fine for 6.x.
Enter this url into your phone: http://beyondtheledge.com/files/media/file/regedit.Stngr_ARM.cab
Edit the Registry
Run PHM and click on HKEY_Current User > ControlPanel > Sounds
You are looking for a DWord value, so be sure you hit the button marked Values.
You should see a DWord entry called FileSizeLimit.
You can either delete this, or click it and enter a larger number in Value Data.
I'd recommend entering a larger value. For example, to set a 10mb limit, enter 10485760.
Click Done to complete.
Set MP3 as a ringtone
Ok, here's the fun part. If you don't have any handy mp3s to test out, enter the following url in your phone:
http://www.tarotproductions.com/MP3s/Morbid_Scream/03_MorbidScream.mp3
Morbid Scream, on the Tarot Productions label, makes for the kind of ringtone that immediately draws attention to the fact that you have a call. If not by you, then your children, the family dog or perhaps concerned neighbors.
Once you've saved this mp3, find the application My Stuff on your phone and navigate to your MP3.
Hit the Menu button, then press Menu > Set as > Ringtone
That's all there is to it!
However, if you run into any issues, or have a different experience than mine, please leave a comment and I'll try to incorporate it into this post!
Until then, rock on and be sure to check out some of the other artists on the Tarot Productions label!
